    Medieval Islamic Art and Architecture

    The high medieval art and architecture of Islam from the 10th century to the Mongol invasions of the mid-13th century. Focuses on the medieval ideal of Islamic unity and the historic fragmentation of Islam into different, often opposed, regional and cultural entities. Major themes are the emergence of Turkish peoples as the dominant political rulers of the Near East and the impact of Latin and Byzantine Christendom on Islamic visual culture.
